Prior to 31/12/2005, milk prices were determined in Euro/1000 litres; since 01/01/2006, prices have been in Euro/1000kg. CLAL publishes prices in Euro/100 litres in order to compare them with farm-gate milk prices in Lombardy (Italy's largest milk-producing region), where prices are agreed between the parties (Dairy Industries and Milk Farmers) in Euro/100 litres.

Calculation to convert the price of:
- whole milk from Euro/1000kg to Euro/100 litres: Price x 1.031:10
- skimmed milk from Euro/1000kg to Euro/100 litres: Price x 1.035:10

Simulation-Based Calculation

The simulation-based calculation here below determines the price of skimmed pasteurised "spot" milk from countries outside Italy by reconstituting the components and employing the ratio: 10,87 kg of milk = 1 kg of skimmed milk powder (SMP). It uses the following references:
  • the min. and max. price trends for Skimmed Milk Powder (SMP) for human consumption (ADPI) determined in Germany;
  • the min. and max. price trends for Skimmed Milk Powder (SMP) for human consumption (LOSE) determined in Germany;
  • the cost of powder transformation: Euro 30,00 / 100 kg of SMP;
  • the cost of transportation from Bavaria to Milan: Euro 4,50 / 100 kg;
  • the conversion from kg to litres: 1,035
The minimum and maximum prices shown in the table are the result of this calculation. The chart to the right illustrates these results over a three-year period.

The graph below compares the average price of skimmed milk, calculated by simulation, with the price of raw Italian "spot" milk over a given period.
