Italy: Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano prices and production
This page provides the comparison between prices of Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano, both of them are PDO. cheeses and are quoted on the Milan Chamber of Commerce. The graphs below compare prices over a given period:
  • for 9-months (or older) Grana Padano and 12-months (or older) Parmigiano Reggiano;
  • for 15-months (or older) Grana Padano and 24-months (or older) Parmigiano Reggiano.

Other considerations may be added:
  • The Parmigiano Reggiano is produced in small quantity and in a limited geographical area;
  • The Parmigiano Reggiano is produced with milk of cattle fed exclusively with meadow hay, green fodder and dry fodder (cereals flours and proteoleaginous crop).
    With regard to Grana Padano only, the use of ensilage for fedding the cows is permitted. The ensilage comes from cereal plants stored in silos.
