Products and Countries

Each of the dairy products (both the key products: Cheese, Butter, Skimmed Milk Powder - SMP, Whole Milk Powder - WMP, Condensed Milk, Bulk and Packed Milk, Cream, Yogurt and Buttermilk; and the by-products: Whey Powder, Whey Protein Concentrates - WPC, Lactose, Caseins and Caseinates) has a different commercial profile (imports/exports): each is exported by clearly-identifiable countries and each has a specific import area.

By following the evolution of each product's commercial profile, we can capture the flow of market presence, bearing in mind that the reference volumes represent approximately 93% compared to the overall global amount.
The chart on the left (World Total Dairy Export) illustrates this world-wide trend in the given period for the key dairy products, while the chart on the right shows the export trend of the by-products.

The following chart compares, by geographical area, the share of milk production and the share of dairy export in milk equivalent of the key products.
  METHODOLOGICAL NOTES  

For commercial assessment purposes data is reported as follows:
  • a synopsis highlighting the dairy import share in the geographic regions in relation to both the overall population and the individual inhabitant (SYNOPSIS BY REGION);

  • the exports flows of all dairy product by the main exporting countries (Table A);

  • the world exports (representing 85/90% of the world trade flows) of all the dairy products (Table B);

  • import and export flows of all dairy products by the main dairy players. The data are expressed on a monthly and yearly basis (Table C);

  • a monthly report of the export trend of all dairy product by the main dairy players (Table D);

  • a table that displays the comparison between the historical production, exports, and imports of the key products (balance sheet) in the main Countries (Table E). The data are updated on a semiannual basis from FAS-USDA sources and are coupled with those coming from production and consumption.
